Ashes 2023: Obviously, He Didn't Keep Well - Tim Paine Backs England To Play Jonny Bairstow Despite Poor Game With Gloves

Former Australian skipper Tim Paine feels that Jonny Bairstow will continue keeping in the second game of the Ashes 2023 at Lord’s. He admitted that the England player didn’t do a great job with the gloves in the first game but Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes will back hum as they set the environment of backing their players
The first Test of the Ashes 2023 concluded on a stunning note. Australia after being down for the majority of the game clinched the victory from the jaws of the defeat by just 2 wickets. But nothing to take away from England as they did exceptionally well throughout but failed to get over the line.

Jonny Bairstow, who was returning to England team after a prolonged injury, had a great game with the bat as he blasted 78 runs in the first innings and then was decent in the second innings as well. His batting helped England be in the game and score runs at a good pace.
But Jonny Bairstow didn’t have a great game behind the stumps with the gloves. The keeper batter missed quite a few catches and stumping chances, which proved costly for England and they eventually lost the game by just 2 wickets.

With Jonny Bairstow grabbing a lot of eyeballs for his poor performance with the gloves, Tim Paine feels that in the newly created environment by Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, he will continue to play. He pointed out that such things can happen to players while coming off injury.
Speaking to SEN podcast ‘Whateley’, he said: “I think they have set an environment where they back their team in and they give them some security over time. I don’t think Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes are the type of people that will throw a Jonny Bairstow out after one bad Test match.”
“Obviously, he didn’t keep well. I think they will back him in. They know how dangerous he is with the bat as well and that’s the style of cricket that they want to play. He has also come off a pretty horrific injury and had a long spell out of the game. So they expect him to get better.”

Ashes 2023: “I find it really hard to believe – Tim Paine Moeen Ali’s selection
After Jack Leach was ruled out of the Ashes 2023, Moeen Ali was reached by the skipper Ben Stokes and ECB management. The all-rounder came out of retirement and played the first game without much practice under his belt.
Moeen Ali bowled 47 overs in the game and picked up three wickets. But he was injured mid-way in the match and then struggled to bowl in the second innings. Tim Pain said that he was staggered with his selection and said that he was expected to get injured. He added:
“That’s another one that I was just staggered with. I find it really hard to believe that the Ashes series means so much to England and Australia, and for me, them to come into an Ashes series without being planned around who their backup spinner was is staggering.
“They have been caught out clearly. Moeen Ali bowled more overs in the first innings than he had in the three months previously. Common sense would tell you if someone does that, they are going to get injured in some way, shape or form. No surprises there that he did.”
The second Test of the Ashes 2023 is slated to take place at Lord’s in London. The game is scheduled to be taken place on 28th June.
