When it comes to consistency in the Indian Premier League, no team comes close to Chennai Super Kings. The Chennai-based franchise has played ten of the twelve IPL seasons so far. They missed the tournament in 2016 and 2017 after being suspended for corruption.
In those ten seasons, the MS Dhoni-led side has made it past the group stage on all occasions and are the only team to have achieved this feat. In those ten seasons, the Super Kings have made it to the final a record eight times and have won the league thrice.
No other team comes even close to that consistency. Mumbai Indians might have won more league titles than Super Kings but in the initial years, they too struggled for consistency. And former India and Super Kings fast-bowler Ashish Nehra recently spoke on what makes the franchise so consistent.

Speaking to former India opener Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel, Ashish Nehra, who played for Super Kings in 2014 and 2015, said that captain Dhoni doesn’t have to face any issues from the management, a problem that other captains face. Dhoni has been the captain of the franchise since the inaugural season in 2008.
“The team atmosphere at CSK is unique. That’s why the team hasn’t just been successful but extremely consistent. The reason for the consistency is India Cements. They have been running cricket in south India for so many years, so they know the game. On top of it, they got a captain like MS Dhoni.
“CSK management supports MS Dhoni completely. The problem is that management in some franchises think they know the game better that then players and coaches. MS Dhoni never had to face that. Thus, if there’s no interference and you are able to keep the same team for 2-3 years, the results do come,” he said.
