Former Indian seamer Ashish Nehra has opined on India’s T20I series win in Australia that the visitors won in style on Sunday. After losing the three-match ODI series comprehensively, India bounced back by beating the hosts in the shortest format. The men in blue delivered complete bowling batting performances to spark a resurgence on a tour that they started meekly. Ashish Nehra feels that a series victory in T20Is will indeed have an impact in the Test leg.

India went on to concede totals of 370 plus in the first and second ODI in Sydney and lost by 66 and 51 runs but bounced back in the third one to scrape through to a narrow win. And consecutive victories in the two T20Is has maintained their winning streak and is crucial ahead of a challenging Test series. India has also now won ten successive T20Is on the bounce. In the first T20I in Canberra, the tourists won by 11 runs while defending 161 and the second one saw them chasing 195 successfully with six wickets and two balls to spare.

Ashish Nehra pointed out that Australia made big totals in the ODI series; hence, India hitting back with a T20I series win will have an impact on the Test series. While the former left-arm seamer expects it to be a minor one; however, the mental shift could prove to be very significant.

Australia were making big totals in the ODI series, so the T20I series win will surely have an impact on the Test series, however, little it might be. Yes, different players are playing this series but it will make a difference to players mentally if not anything,” Nehra told Cricbuzz.

The 41-year old added that the likes of Deepak Chahar, T Natarajan, Shardul Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Washington Sundar need not be rested as they are not in the Test side. Ashish Nehra opined that there could be a chance for Virat Kohli to sit out, giving KL Rahul a chance to be the skipper and opting for Manish Pandey.

There is no need to rest any of the bowlers as they are not on the Test side be it Sundar, Natarajan, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, or Yuzvenvdra Chahal. Except for Manish Pandey, there can be no possible change, perhaps Virat Kohli can take rest himself and Pandey can be picked in place of him with KL Rahul as the captain but nothing else,” he added.
