Asia Cup 2018: Akila Dhananjaya to Join Sri Lanka Team

Sri Lanka all-rounder, Akila Dhananjaya, who did not travel with the team for the Asia Cup 2018, will join the side on September 16, 2018 (Sunday). The young spinner was home for the birth of his first child.

However, Sri Lanka lost the match to Bangladesh by 137 runs in the first game of Asia Cup 2018. The batting line-up failed to put runs with the bat, and there was also some missed catches while Bangladesh was batting. The Tigers played a fantastic cricket at the Dubai International Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to gain an early lead in the tournament.

Moreover, Sri Lanka’s opening pair, Upal Tharanga and Kusal Mendis looked furious to achieve the target of 262 runs. However, after the departure of Tharanga, they faced difficulties to score runs and to retain their wickets. They lost their six wickets within the twentieth over.

Furthermore, the slinging legend had made his comeback into the Lankan ODI team with a bang.

However, it could be a perfect opportunity for Akila if he is at his best and helps his team in winning the tournament. Injuries and poor form marred him before being out of the side. Early in the game, Sri Lanka team was looking nervous and couldn’t build up a solid partnership amongst them.

Moreover, Akila Dhananjaya has been in terrific form. He bagged 11 wickets for Columbo in six matches that he had played. However,  he can be to deliver a leg break, googly, carrom ball, doosra and a stock offspinner with bewildering control.

So far, Akila Dhananjaya has played 24 ODIs for his nation and picked up 35 wickets averaging 29.34. However, Sri Lanka would now face Afghanistan on September 17th for their second group game.
