Of late, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been dented with the injuries to the key players. The experienced all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan has been the latest cricketer to fall under the stamp. The skipper of Bangladesh in Test cricket and ODI formats is in plans of skipping the upcoming Asia Cup 2018 to help his surgery.

Shakib already missed a couple of series due to his fractured finger.

I have to do surgery: Shakib Al Hasan

Speaking on Thursday (August 9th), Shakib confirmed that he wants to undergo surgery as quickly as possible. Though the surgery has the required time, Shakib doesn’t want to delay the things.

The all-rounder Shakib sustained an injury on his left hand during the tri-series final, involving Zimbabwe, against Sri Lanka in January and was forced to leave the field mid-way, and could not take any further part in the final.

“I have to do a surgery. So the discussion now is about when to do it. I want it to happen as soon as possible. It will most probably be before the Asia Cup,” Shakib told reporters at Hazrat International Airport upon his arrival from the recently concluded tour of the Windies.

“It was quite a satisfying performance. We won trophies in two out of the three series. We don’t usually play this well abroad. Naturally, the confidence is high in the squad. We can (now) start thinking of something new (to achieve),” he added.

Shakib Al Hasan, happy with his performances:

Despite having an injury, Shakib Al Hasan always gave his cent per cent to Bangladesh in all the formats of the game. He was given the promotion in the batting order and did reasonably well.

“I am happy with how I did but maybe I could have contributed more. We (seniors) all bat in the top order, so we get more opportunities to contribute and we should contribute more. As we play at the top, the percentage of contribution is higher,” he added.

However, the absence of Shakib Al Hasan will undoubtedly be a setback to Bangladesh side for their Asia Cup 2018 campaign. It might also be a blessing in a disguise as Shakib would be entirely fit for ICC World Cup 2019.
