It was a brilliant performance by the Afghan boys which saw them giving a valiant fight to the Men in Blue. However, the match was in the grasp of India for the major part of the chase. It was a great partnership between KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu which got India off to a great start.

The makeshift openers shared a partnership of 110 runs, as India looked well set to chase the target down with utmost ease. However, it wasn’t possible, as India lost some quick wickets in the middle overs. They got jolted with a couple of bad umpiring decisions. However, they were themselves to blame for it, as India wasted the review with the dismissal of KL Rahul.

Afghanistan produced a terrific display against India

Despite the wickets, it never looked like India would take the match to the wire. MS Dhoni who was captaining the team in his 200th game got out on a shocking decision followed by another howler of Dinesh Karthik. Naked eyes would have suggested on both occasions that the ball would have turned quite a lot and missed the stumps. However, the umpire had other ideas and ruled it in favour of the bowling team. Later, Ravindra Jadeja batted sensibly and tried to ensure India chased the total down in the end.

Kuldeep Yadav also batted well and shared a brief partnership with Jadeja. However, his run out brought about another twist in the game. Siddharth Kaul was also run out with India still needing nine to win of the next eight deliveries.

Jadeja struck a brilliant shot off Rashid Khan of the final over which brought the target within touching distance. Replays showed that the ball could have directly hit the fence. However, the 3rd umpire had other ideas, as he ruled it as a four. Jadeja and Khaleel Ahmed took a single each to bring the calculation down to one of two. Ravindra Jadeja played horrendous shots and have an easy catch to the deep fielder.

Following the thrilling tie, a young Punjabi boy was seen crying, as his father consoled him. It was not the first time that a young boy has shown his emotions during a game in the Asia Cup. Meanwhile, it got posted on the Twitter handle of Anmolpreet Singh that the youngster is a student of the MS Dhoni Cricket Academy and was practising in Dubai.

“He is currently training at MS Dhoni Cricket Academy in Dubai… Your wishes will come true one day… If not bowling, he will surely wrap up the match with a clean hit,” Amarpreet Singh wrote.
