Former Australian batsman and sort of a dasher during his time Dean Jones believes that he sees no problem in defending champions India playing two matches on consecutive days during the Asia Cup 2018.

The Men in Blue are slated to play two consecutive matches in the upcoming 14th edition of the Asia Cup. They are slated to play the Qualifier on 18th September followed by a high voltage match against arch-rivals Pakistan on 19th of September.

Jones stated that the players of the yesteryears used to play consecutive matches. Hence he questioned the take of the current crop of players.

“We used to play a lot of back-to-back one-day matches in our time, so why are the players complaining now? They play five-day Test matches. I remember on an England tour; we played 11 days in a row three times. I know it’s a bit warm, but that’s why they get the big bucks these days,” IANS quoted Jones during the launch of the Star Sports campaign.

On Asia Cup 2018 schedule Dean Jones says no one will die:

“I have got no problem (in India playing two days consistently). Fatigue might be a problem, but these guys are athletes and unbelievably fit. They will be fine. I could say this ‘No one will die’,” he added.

In all six teams will be participating in the Asia Cup. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and the winner of the Qualifier of the Asia Cup.

Meanwhile, India is currently having a torrid time in England. They have lost the first two Tests and are staring down another huge defeat in overseas conditions. They were outplayed in the second Test while losing by an innings and 59 runs.

It will be a huge ask for the visitors to force their way into the series from this situation.

Despite their below-par performances in overseas conditions in the longest format, they have been quite impressive in the shorter forms of the game.

It will be interesting to see how India reacts to the current situation. As of now, a big series defeat is on the cards.
