Bangladesh offered a clinical display as they beat Pakistan by 37 runs to set up a finale clash with India in the ongoing Asia Cup on September 28 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Meanwhile, Mushfiqur Rahim guided Bangladesh with a scintillating knock to post 239 runs on the board. He was unfortunate to get out 99 as they lost back to back wickets which kept the score from flourishing.

Pakistan brought in Junaid Khan, a decision that paid immediate dividends in the powerplay overs. He picked up two of the first three wickets that fell razing through the openers. However, that reaffirming stand between Rahim and Mithun then flourished, the duo keeping up well with Pakistan spinners bowling quick on a well-grassed wicket. First-change Hasan Ali was equally complicit in Pakistan’s plight, failing to keep up the pressure built by the opening bowlers until he struck with Mithun’s wicket with a well-deceived short ball that flew back to him off a top-edge.

Shadab Khan’s near-immediate wicket of Imrul Kayes meant that Mushfiqur, then on 80, had to bat right through for Bangladesh to bat Pakistan out of the match. Mushfiqur fell on 99 though, edging Shaheen Afridi to the wicketkeeper. Junaid Khan razed through Mehidy Hasan and Mahmudullah in successive overs, ending with 4 for 19.

Hasan Ali removed Rubel Hossain which ensured Bangladesh got all out on 239, a few tens less than they expected.

Bangladesh, in pursuit of a finale spot, started on a high sending Pakistan’s top-order back in the hut. Mustafizur Rahman was fantastic with the new ball to leave the Green Caps in a spot of bother. Since then, Shoaib Malik, their only hope, partnered Imam-ul-Haq to revive the innings. They added 67 runs before Malik departed scoring a hard-fought 30.

Asif Ali then played a patient knock along with Imam, who crossed his half-century by then to take Pakistan close to the winnings runs. However, Bangladesh struck back to back to send Pakistan out of the game.

Shaheen Afridi and Junaid Khan ensured that they bat till the end to finish at 202 for nine. As a result, Bangladesh will play India in the finals of the Asia Cup.
