Team India lifted the prestigious Asia Cup for the seventh time beating Bangladesh in a last-over thriller at the United Arab Emirates. Meanwhile, India dominated the proceedings throughout the tournament as the youngsters came in handy. Though more than anything, MS Dhoni’s gesture to ask Rohit Sharma hand over the coveted trophy to Khaleel Ahmed, the youngest member of the squad has become the talk of the town.
The selectors went in with a relatively young squad to the Asia Cup, this year. Rohit Sharma stepped in as the skipper in the absence of Virat Kohli, who opted for some rest. The left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed also got his debut call and made his debut against Hong Kong. Moreover, they went to the finals as the favorites but Bangladesh gave them some tough time.
They stretched the game to the last ball as Kedar Jadhav won the match for India with three wickets in hand. The close encounter inspired the whole team as they celebrated wholeheartedly in the podium.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni started a norm of handing the trophies to the youngest member of the squad during his captaincy. Moreover, he preferred standing in the corner away from all the limelight. Virat Kohli also continued the same legacy. However, this time around Dhoni asked Rohit Sharma to hand over the Asia Cup trophy to the young Khaleel Ahmed. The youngster expressed his excitement and thrill to have the honour.
“Dhoni bhai asked Rohit Sharma to let me hold the trophy on the dais. He gave me the trophy because I was the youngest member in the team and it was my debut series. It was a memorable experience for me. When Dhoni bhai and Rohit asked me to hold the winning trophy, I had no words,” he had said explaining the incident earlier,” Khaleel Ahmed said.
Soon after the news broke, Twitter was in awe by the humble attitude of MS Dhoni as they showered love for the veteran cricketer.
Here is how the Twitter bowed down to MS Dhoni for his heart-touching gesture:
