AUS vs ENG 2017/18: Calf Injury Rules Chris Lynn Out of England ODIs
Chris Lynn’s injury curse has struck once again, as the hard-hitting Australian batsman has been ruled out of Australia’s upcoming One-Day International series against England and the remainder of the Big Bash League. The right-handed batsman is now set to spend a month on the sidelines due to a calf injury he suffered during the game against Perth Scorchers.
The 27-year old, who was recently named in the ODI squad, had scans on the calf injury on Saturday (January 6) which has made him doubtful for Brisbane Heat’s next match against Hobart on Wednesday. Cricket Australia has announced the right-handed batsman will miss the ODI’s against England this month.
“Chris initially left the field against the Scorchers complaining of tightness in his calf,” said Cricket Australia’s Sports Science and Sports Medicine Manager Alex Kountouris.
“He reported increasing discomfort over the 24 hours that followed and the Heat’s medical staff made the decision to send him for a scan. That scan confirmed the injury, which is expected to prevent him from playing for three to four weeks.
“When Chris recovers, the expectation is that he will need to prove his fitness in match action before being considered again for international selection,” he added.
Cricket Australia is yet to announce Lynn’s replacement. Ousted batsman Glenn Maxwell is likely to be in contention to replace the Queenslander. The likes of in-form Shaun Marsh, Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb could also be considered to replace Lynn.
The latest injury is a further setback to Lynn’s career which has not taken full flight despite showing promising signs due to several injuries. He underwent yet another shoulder operation last year after suffering a third bruise on the left shoulder in less than two years and has also been troubled by a sore hamstring this summer.
Lynn expressed his disappointment over missing another opportunity to cement his spot in the national team and is hopeful of returning to action sooner rather than later.
“It is annoying, and I’m very disappointed to miss an opportunity with the ODI side, but I know it is minor in the scheme of things,” Lynn said.
“I have been working very hard to get myself right, and the positive thing is that my shoulder is feeling very good. I’ll do the work again, and I am confident I will give myself a shot at playing some good cricket again soon,” he added.
