Australia banked on Glenn Maxwell’s all-round show to beat England by five wickets with nine balls to spare in Hobart. It was the second match for Australia in tri-nation T20 series involving New Zealand.

Batting first, England posted 155 for nine in their quota of 20 overs. Dawid Malan was the highest run-scorer with 50 runs. Alex Hales and skipper Eoin Morgan started off well but couldn’t get going, as both got out on 22 runs.

The slow bowlers did a good job, as they restricted England to a cheap total. Maxwell was the pick of the bowlers picking up three wickets from two overs. He was well supported by Ashton Agar who returned with two wickets too.

In reply, Maxwell brought his second T20I ton to help his team cross the rope with ease. Australia was striving at 4 for two when Maxwell and D’Arcy Short steadied the innings. Short departed after scoring a quickfire 30, but Maxwell went on with his job.

Maxwell reached the landmark in 58 balls with the help of ten boundaries and four massive sixes. He took his team single-handedly over the rope.

Australia now has two wins from two matches and sits comfortably on the top.
