England batter Harry Brook opened up about having a multi-year contract with the national side. He admitted that franchise cricket is a bonus but he’s completely focused on playing for the Three Lions.

The growing advent of franchise cricket has posed a great threat to international cricket. England has been at the receiving end of it as recently many of their key players decided against playing for the national side and opted to play T20 cricket around the world.

This prompted ECB to bring a change in their contract system and introduce multi-year contracts and will also increase match fees. One of the players that might receive the contract is young Harry Brook, who is a vital player for England in all three formats of the game.

Ever since he made his debut Harry Brook has set the stage on fire and has been piling up runs in all three formats consistently. He also bagged an IPL contract this year having plying trade earlier in BBL as well as the PSL.

Harry Brook said that he’s not bothered about franchise cricket as he’s a three-format player for England, who doesn’t get time to be playing in leagues across the world.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he explained: “Franchise cricket is a bonus but I’m completely focused on playing cricket for England. I’m not bothered about all the franchise stuff. I want to play cricket for England.

“If I’m in all three formats for England, I don’t really feel like there’s too much time to be playing any other franchise stuff. The IPL is the only one that is really free, when you’re available for everything,” he added.

AUS vs ENG: We’re fully concentrated on that now – Harry Brook on Oval Test after Washout in Manchester

Harry Brook is currently part of the England team for the Ashes 2023. The right-hander has played a vital role for the team and has chipped in with crucial contributions. But that went in vain to some amount as Australia retained Ashes, thanks to the washout in Manchester.

Harry Brook said that it would’ve been good going into the final game with the series scoreline being 2-2 but they are focused on the last game as they eye to finish the series on high.

He elaborated: “It would have been class coming to here 2-2, but we can’t think too much about that. We have to move on and there’s a Test match to win here. We’re fully concentrated on that now,” he said.

The last and final Test of Ashes 2023 will be played on 27th July at The Oval in London.
