MS Dhoni has shown his class on the other day when India was chasing a mammoth tally. The wicketkeeper-batsman was under the pump for quite a period of time and finally, delivered the goods when it mattered the most. With the ICC World Cup 2019 around the corner, the remaining few games are the must for Mahendra Singh Dhoni to get into his zone.

Dhoni came in to bat after Ambati Rayudu’s departure with India moving towards the target at 160/3. Dhoni combined with Virat Kohli to put on an 82-run stand for the fourth wicket and then with Dinesh Karthik for another 57 runs as India won the game with four balls to spare.

While heaping praise on Dhoni’s match-winning half-century in Adelaide, former cricketer Nikhil Chopra said the World Cup-winning former captain should play domestic cricket in order to keep himself match-ready.

Nikhil Chopra believes that the two consecutive half-centuries he got against Australia would be a great confidence booster for MS Dhoni. Further, he went on to say that this would be the start of Mahendra Singh Dhoni rising again, especially, after a poor last year.

“Tremendous [Dhoni’s effort in Adelaide]. After that first game where he got that half-century, a little bit of rustiness must have been shrugged off. Scoring a run-a-ball half-century, seeing India through, levelling the series just shows us that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is back and back with a bang, without a doubt,” Nikhil Chopra told India Today.

“I am glad he has got two back-to-back half-centuries because this will give him a great deal of confidence. I completely agree [with voices from back home urging him to play domestic cricket]. Why isn’t he playing domestic cricket? He has been a captain, he knows exactly what he needs to play domestic cricket so that the bat flow is there for him all the time,” Chopra said.

Dhoni’s innings showed that his finishing abilities are still intact and he can still win games for India. India’s win in Adelaide helped them level the series 1-1. India will look to continue their winning run in Melbourne in the third ODI which is scheduled to be played on Friday.
