The former Australia captain, Allan Border has shared high praise for MS Dhoni. The player of the series in the three-match ODIs against Australia, Dhoni collected three consecutive fifties; averaging 193 with the bat. Border, who said India deserved to win the Tests and ODIs looking at the way they had played; remarked Dhoni has returned to the ODI setup with a vengeance.
Border lauds vintage MS Dhoni
Allan Border didn’t shy away from appreciating India for the series win. The legendary figure said the way India had played Tests and ODIs, they deserved to win. Furthermore, he added the ODI series was evenly close. Border then opined that Dhoni returning to form is gold for the India National Cricket Team.
Meanwhile, the former India captain has had a series to remember with the bat. In 2018, he didn’t hit a single half-century. However, in the ongoing year, he already has hit three in as many games. At the SCG, he scored 51 runs. Though India lost the game, MS hitting the run-gear left the fans a bit satisfied. Furthermore, his twin unbeaten fifties at the Adelaide Oval and the MCG ensured India crossed the winning line with six and seven wickets, respectively.
“I thought the one-day series was quite close. Evenly balanced… most of the games. Old MS Dhoni is back with a vengeance. Isn’t he? He played very well in all the games, particularly the last couple where he got India over the line again,” Border told ANI.
Allan shares high praise for Kohli, team management
Border also showered praises on Virat Kohli and the team management for the unprecedented series win Down Under.
“Congratulations to India on series victory. They have deserved those series victories. No doubt they have been the better side. We had our issues over the last 12 months with few of the better players not being available but still India played tremendously well,” he said.
“We expect them to do well in Twenty20 because of the IPL factor. They are a very good T20 side, they are the No.1 Test side in the world. So, it was not unexpected to see India play so well, particularly, what’s interesting is they won with fast bowling as against the traditional way for them winning through spinners. That was an interesting change the way things normally turn out between Australia and India. ‘We beat you with our fast bowlers in Australia and you beat us with your spinners in India’. Real change there. Virat Kohli was really fantastic with his leadership and rest of the Indian team played so well. Hats off to Pujara. What a series he had in the Tests.” he concluded.
India will now travel to New Zealand for the five ODIs and three T20Is.
