Australian cricketer Travis head described the booing of Mitchell Marsh on the opening day of the Boxing Day Test as pretty poor. He claimed that no Australian player should receive that sort of treatment on home soil.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Indian National Cricket Team skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first. Mitchell Marsh was welcomed with a massive chorus of boos from the MCG crowd when he was introduced into the bowling attack.

Meanwhile, Head said that Marsh shouldn’t have been subject to booing. He also applauded the all-rounder who finished with 0/23 from 15 overs at the end of the first day. Travis Head also said that the all-rounder bowled some brilliant spells in the middle. Moreover, he even created some significant pressure on the opposition with his disciplined bowling.

“I don’t think it’s great. Obviously, we see it a bit with [Indian captain Virat] Kohli as well. But for Mitch, who worked his bum off today. I thought he bowled exceptionally well, I thought he created great pressure, in tough conditions, fought really hard. So I don’t think any Australian cricketer in Australia deserves to be booed.” Head was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald on Wednesday.

Travis Head added that he understood that the Melbourne crowd would have been disappointed for a hometown player to make way. However, he reiterated that Mitchell Marsh, who only three months ago was named vice-captain of the new-look Test side, shouldn’t be subjected to booing.

“I understand a Victorian crowd, and Petey obviously missing out, but I think it’s pretty poor. Marsh showed today [that he is] a great team man, great fella, worked his backside off for the boys today, and I think he did a good job, so disappointing, so hopefully, that won’t be the case for the next few days.” Travis Head concluded.
