Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman believes Australia’s off-spinner Nathan Lyon is going to be challenging for the Indian team in the third innings of the ongoing first Test match at Adelaide. The Adelaide Oval pitch is offering assistance to the spinners and Lyon can be a big threat to the second innings of the Indian team.

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin was able to get the purchase from the surface as he breathed down the neck of the Australian batters. Ashwin has thus far scalped three wickets and has landed his balls in the corridor of uncertainty.

Nathan Lyon could be a threat to the Indian team.

Nathan Lyon had also taken two wickets in the first innings of the Indian batting and he is going to hold the key for Australia. Lyon has been in good form in the recent past and has a good record while bowling against India.

VVS Laxman believes that the Adelaide Oval has turned out to be subcontinent type of a pitch as it is assisting the spinners.

“This will almost convert into a subcontinent type of wicket, it will keep on deteriorating and it will become tough for strokeplay. Even today (Friday) we saw the ball was coming slow, so strokeplay will become tough especially when the bowlers are disciplined as they have shown over the two days”.

“From India’s point of view, they have to bat really well tomorrow. And the bowlers have to get the three wickets tomorrow and stop them from crossing 250 and then once they get the chance to bat they have to post a big total. It is still not a bad wicket, but the most challenging bowler tomorrow will be Nathan Lyon,” said Laxman while talking to ESPN.

Meanwhile, Australia is trailing by 44 runs after the loss of eight wickets. Jasprit Bumrah was able to get the better of Mitchell Starc after a delayed start of 45 minutes on Day three. However, rain once again made its appearance after the fall of the wicket. Thus, the match has been played in bits and pieces on day three.
