India’s head coach Ravi Shastri has provided an update on the injury of India’s prodigy batsman Prithvi Shaw. Shastri said Shaw has started walking and is likely to be fit for the third Test match at Melbourne. Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw had twisted his ankle while attempting to catch a ball in the four-day warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI. In fact, Shaw was looking to all set to be in the playing XI for the first Test.

However, it wasn’t to be the case as Shaw was ruled out. Thus, it was unfortunate for him as well as India. Furthermore, Shaw was in fine form and had hit a fluent 66 off just 69 balls in the warm-up match. He had also made an impressive Test debut against the Windies.

Shaw’s injury was a big blow for India.

Shastri went on to add that it was heartbreaking to see Shaw go down before the first Test.

It was heartbreaking to see him go down,” Shastri was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

“But the good thing is he’s recovering quickly. He’s already started walking. Hopefully if we can get him to run a bit by the weekend, that’s really good signs.

“With youth on his side, there might just be a case where he might recover quicker.

“We’ll make a call as and when we get closer to Perth.”

Shaw has a perfect backfoot play and he could have been a trump card for the visitors. However, in Shaw’s absence, India is going to open with Murali Vijay and KL Rahul. Both these openers had got themselves amongst the runs in the warm-up match and it was a good sign for both of them and India.

Australia has already revealed its playing XI whereas India has named its 12-man squad for the first Test match at Adelaide. The tourists is likely to play one between Rohit Sharma or Hanuma Vihari in the final XI.
