Axar Patel once again displayed his brilliant form in the ongoing Dream11 IPL and was duly adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for his figures of 2-18 during Delhi Capitals [DC] 59-run mauling of Royal Challengers Bangalore [RCB].
Axar claimed a crucial scalp of Aaron Finch during the powerplay before accounting for Moeen Ali during his second spell. Patel was economical throughout his spell, ensuring that even the likes of Virat Kohli found it difficult to get him away.
Speaking in the post-match interview, Axar Patel revealed that since the ball was stopping a bit on the wicket and his plan after having spoken to his team’s batsmen during the break, was to attack the stumps with subtle variation in his pace.
He further revealed that his initial plan was to defend in the powerplay but as soon as the ball spun, he immediately changed his gears and got into ‘attack mode’
”I knew it was stopping on the wicket. I knew I would bowl in the powerplay and I had practiced for it as well. I think I executed my plans really well. My plan after speaking to batsmen was that since the wicket was slow, I wanted to bowl at the stumps and vary the pace. In the powerplay I was in a mood to defend at first, but when the third ball spun I changed gears and got into an attack mode,” Axar Patel said.
Post-Axar Patel’s spell, Kagiso Rabada took over as he ran through RCB’s middle-order to register figures of 4-24, ensuring that DC eventually restricted the Challengers to 9-137 in 20 overs.
