Former Pakistan opening batsman Mudassar Nazar reckons that the tour of England is the finish line for Babar Azam. Mudassar Nazar believes that if he manages to get going under testing conditions in England, he will have his critics proven wrong. The Pakistan national team had long reached the United Kingdom shores where they will play three Tests and three T20Is, beginning on the 5th of August.

There is no doubt that all eyes will be fixated on Pakistan’s lynchpin and limited-overs captain Babar Azam. While the 25-year old has proved himself as a limited-overs giant, he is rapidly rising to that level in Test cricket as well. At present, he is the only batsman to bag a spot in the top five rankings across formats. With an average of 45 in 26 Tests so far, Azam will undeniably face the challenge of tackling the likes of James Anderson, Stuart Broad, and Jofra Archer on swinging and overcast conditions.

According to Mudassar Nazar, the tour of England is the final Test for him while also admitting that he has not faced a proper Test in England before. The 64-year old is firm on none being able to catch the right-handed batsman if he displays his brilliance in England. And considering how Babar has managed to dominate the bowlers of late, Nazar feels he can do.

England is the final test for Babar Azam. Although he has toured England before, he hasn’t been tested properly yet. If he scores here, then no one will be able to catch him. The way he is dominating bowlers these days, if he does the same in England then no one will be able to catch him,” the 63-year-old Nazar told Cricket Pakistan.

I think Babar Azam will perform well in England as his confidence is very high right now: Mudassar Nazar

The Lahore-born further stated that Babar had a weakness in him of trying to drive a wide delivery outside off-stump, which he thinks is natural for a Pakistan batsman. Mudassar cited the example of how he dominated Dale Steyn in South Africa earlier in 2019, which makes him believe Babar will perform in England too.

“Babar had a weak point that he used to drive the ball wide outside off-stump, which is a natural weakness in batsmen who grow up playing on Pakistani pitches. But in recent times, he has started playing late and has a great grip on the bat. In South Africa as well, Babar dominated Dale Steyn, who is famous for his outswing. I think he will perform well in England as his confidence is very high right now,” he said.

At some stage, he will have to let go [of] one of the positions: Mudassar Nazar

Nazar continued by saying that Misbah-Ul-Haq has put himself under pressure and a challenging position by accepting too many roles. He believes that the former Pakistan captain will have to let go of either the spot of the head coach or chief selector in the near future.

“Misbah has put himself in a difficult situation by accepting too many roles. He should have only accepted the head coach role if he wanted a coaching position. At some stage, he will have to let go [of] one of the positions,” Mudassar Nazar added.
