Bangladesh Wants ICC To Extend World Test Championship Cycle

The two-year World Test Championship cycle has been marred due to no existence of matches in a pandemic effected world. A number of series which were a part of the World Test Championship have been called off during this period, leaving the championship in a state of jeopardy.

In the championship, which is touted to be World Cup for Test cricket, every team was scheduled to play eight series — one at home and one away. Every team will be allowed to score from 120 points in a series, with points beings segregated according to the number of matches played.

Unless the current ICC Test Championship cycle is extended there is no way we can play those eight Test matches: BCB operations chairman

BCB operations chairman Akram Khan has said that unless the governing council extends the World Test Championship schedule there is no way all the matches will be completed in the stipulated time frame. Khan is also keeping a close eye on the decision the global governing council will take on the matter.

“Unless the current ICC Test Championship cycle is extended there is no way we can play those eight Test matches in the stipulated time frame of the first cycle,” BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan told Cricbuzz.

“We are looking forward to see what ICC does with the Test Championship because unless it is reshuffled there is hardly any possibility to play the eight Test matches that got cancelled,” he said.

A total of 72 Tests were supposed to be played between July, 2019 and March 31, 2021 according to the original schedule. India currently top the table with 360 points while Bangladesh are placed in the bottom.
