Bangladesh Suspend Arafat Sunny Jr. And Mohammad Shahid For One Year

Bangladesh Cricket is currently going through a crisis period, and it continues to pile on. After International Cricket Committee suspended their skipper Shakib Al Hasan for breaching ICC standards, they suffered humiliating defeats to India in the recently concluded series. And now, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has handed suspensions to two more cricketers for violating protocol.

BCB suspended fast bowler Mohammad Shahid on account of provoking Shahadat Hossain which led to an assault on Arafat Sunny Jr. during the National Cricket League. Besides, the apex body also handed suspension to Sunny for constantly ignoring Shahadat’s request to shine the ball. The incident took place during the second day’s play between Dhaka Division and Khulna Division at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna. Meanwhile, the former Bangladesh Test fast bowler, Shahadat has been handed a five-year ban (with two years suspended) and fined Taka 3 lakh for assaulting Sunny Jr.

Bangladesh land in more trouble

Bangladesh Cricket Board in a statement said that both Mohammad Shahid and Arafat Sunny Jr. committed level 2 offence and thus, they have received sanctions. The report also added that the ban would not start immediately and the apex council will keep a check one the players before enforcing the ban. BCB held a meeting on November 30 (Saturday) where the disciplinary committee called both the cricketers for a hearing.

“Both of them committed level two offence and were handed one-year suspended suspension,” BCB tournament committee official confirmed to Cricbuzz. “Though they are not banned immediately, their on and off-field activities will be monitored and if they commit any more offence than the ban will be implemented right away,” he added.

On the other hand, fast bowler Shahadat Hossain received a full hearing from Bangladesh Cricket Board, but they decided to uphold the ban. He has represented Bangladesh in 38 Tests, 51 ODIs, and 5 T20Is claiming 123 wickets in total.
