Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah said that his players would be wearing black armbands today during the 5th match of the Nidahas Trophy against the Men in Blue. It will be done as a mark of respect to the 49 passengers who died in the plane crash in Nepal on Monday. It was a regrettable incident, and the Bangladesh cricketers will be paying tribute to them who lost their lives in the accident.
Speaking at the pre-match conference, Mahmudullah said:
“When we got the news of the unfortunate plane crash yesterday (Monday), we were deeply distressed by it. About 30-40 Bangladeshis were on board; it is very disturbing. There could be someone’s close relatives who would have been on that flight. Some I might have known, it’s very sad. Our prayers are with them and hope the families gather enough strength to battle through these stressful times.”
A carrier passenger aeroplane crashed and burst into flames with 71 passengers on it while landing in Kathmandu. 49 people died instantly while 20 others were in the worst aviation disaster ever to have struck Nepal in the last three decades.
The US-Bangla Airlines flight from Dhaka became unstable when it reached towards Tribhuvan International Airport, and it was on the 2nd attempt to land that the plane crashed.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh will look to win their clash against India today which will enhance their chances of qualifying for the final of the tournament. They began with a defeat at the hands of India in the opening clash but bounced back strongly to chase down a mammoth 215 to win their 2nd match against Sri Lanka.
