Windies have named Rovman Powell as their skipper for the upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh with regular skipper Jason Holder ruled out due to a shoulder injury.

Meanwhile, the Caribbeans will be desperate to do well after suffering a whitewash in the Tests. The three-match ODI series will commence from December 9 at Dhaka and the visitors will be keen to start the series on a high. Furthermore, Dhaka will host the second game on December 11 while Sylhet will host the final game on December 14.

Powell had a moderate outing in the ODI series against India, with only 61 runs from five innings. However, he had a productive time during the T10 League, scoring 177 runs at a strike rate of 226.92, including a 25-ball 61 in the final that laid the platform for Northern Warriors’ title victory.

Darren Bravo is all set to return to the ODI setup after two years which will be a huge boost for the Windies side. All-rounder Roston Chase, who had a good time in India, and Carlos Brathwaite, the T20I skipper, are also part of the 15-member squad for the three-match series.

The chairman of selectors, Courtney Browne, welcomed the return of Bravo to the ODI squad. He also added that southpaw will play a crucial role in the upcoming ODI series.

In the absence of captain Jason Holder, the panel believes the team can still be competitive, especially with the return of Darren Bravo. Darren’s experience will add value to the batting, which in turn will place selection pressure for spots in the squad,” he said.
