The Barabati stadium in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha will be turned into Covid centres to help the state fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic. Barabati stadium is a multi-purpose stadium with the games like cricket, association football and field hockey being host inside it. It was formed in the year 1958 and is home to Odisha men and women’s football team.

The stadium owned and operated by Odisha Cricket Association will be turned into Covid centre, the sports department said on Thursday. On Wednesday, Odisha recorded the highest number of positive cases with 1078. The districts Ganjam and Khudra are among the worst-affected in the state.

“The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has taken this decision after the rapid increase in Coronavirus positive cases in the city.

CMC commisioner Ananya Das said Barabati Stadium will have 100 beds in its premises out of which 75 beds have already been put up in the air conditioned corporate boxes,” according to a report in updateodisha.com.

Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium will also be facilitated and turned into covid centre in this critical situation.

The state has recorded a total of 19,835 cases out of which 6387 are active cases and 13,309 have recovered.
