BBL 07: Brendan Doggett Takes a Fifer As Brisbane Heat Beat Perth Scorchers

Brisbane Heat defeated Perth Scorchers by 49 runs courtesy a five-wicket haul by right arm fast bowler Brendan Doggett. Perth won the toss and chose to field first, but the decision backfired as the Heat openers were involved in 59 runs as Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum dismantled the scorchers bowling line up. Lynn scored 39 off just 20 deliveries while McCullum scored 32 off 27 balls. Joe Burns then took center stage as he scored 36 off 26 hitting three humungous sixes.

However, the center of attraction in the innings was Ben Cutting who played and exceptional innings don the order and scored a handy 46 off 20 deliveries which included five towering sixes. Cutting gave away his wicket to David Willey who picked up two wickets for the Scorchers. Jhye Richardson, who has been picked up in the Australian ODI squad picked up one wicket along with Andrew Tye, Ashton Agar, and Joel Paris.

In Reply, Perth had a disappointing start to their innings as they lost two wickets on two consecutive deliveries of Michael Klinger and Hilton Cartwright. Yasir Shah and Mark Steketee rocked the scorchers top order, but the star in the bowling department was Doggett who picked up five wickets which included an important wicket for Ashton Turner.

Doggett’s other four scalps were Tim David, Josh Inglis, Andrew Tye and Joel Paris. Doggett was a touch expensive and gave 35 runs in his quota of four overs. Steketee was also the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three wickets in the match. Ben Cutting was adjudged the man of the match for his blistering innings of 46 in 20 deliveries.
