Cricket Australia (CA) has decided to release Travis Head, Alex Carey, and D’Arcy Short for the Big Bash League (BBL) final in Adelaide, on February 4.
The players will join their respective BBL squad after the conclusion of the first game of the T20I series between Australia and New Zealand in Sydney on Saturday.
The trio will head to Hobart after the final to the join the Australian squad. Australia will play their second game of the series against England on February 7 at Blundstone Arena, Hobart.
However, the release clause was not used for pacers because of their tougher physical workloads. As a result, Strikers fast bowler Bill Stanlake will not play in the BBL final.
Earlier, Head was the only player to be released for the BBL semifinal. He played a crucial knock of 85 runs in a thrilling last-ball win over Melbourne Renegades.
Carey has a breakout BBL campaign with 425 runs at 53.12 while Head (330 runs at 47.14) remains one of the most destructive white-ball batsmen in the country.
On the other hand, Short is the highest run-scorer with 504 runs at an average of 56. He will further strengthen the Hurricanes batting order, who posted 210 in the semifinal.
The two franchises are set to announce their squads for the final later on Saturday.
