Former New Zealand cricketer Brendon McCullum might be struggling for runs in the Twenty20 Big Bash League (BBL), but his fielding remains as brilliant as ever, after two spectacular efforts in Perth on Saturday.

McCullum took a sharp diving catch for Brisbane Heat to remove Perth Scorchers and disgraced Australian opener Cameron Bancroft, then almost bettered it when Mitchell Marsh crashed one towards the boundary. Brendon McCullum at long-off raced around and dived full length, getting his left hand to the ball which looked to be heading for six. He couldn’t quite cling on but saved five runs for his team who went on to record their first win of the season.

Perth Scorchers, meanwhile, posted only 139 runs after batting first with Ashton Turner leading the scoring charts with 47 runs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was spectacular with the ball returning with two for 10 in his four overs, thus bagging the man of the match award. However, in reply, all the top-order crossed the double-digit figure to chase down the target in 18.2 overs. Skipper Chris Lynn anchored the innings while some late blows from Ben Cutting ensured Heats their first win.

Meanwhile, this is their first win for the Brisbane Heats in their four outings in the ongoing season of the BBL. However, Brendon McCullum needs to find the right chords with the bat as he managed to score only 30 runs from four innings, averaging just 7.5.
