The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to implement a strict policy on the participation of its national cricketers in the domestic first-class circuit.
Board’s president Nazmul Hasan stated many of the senior players were not interested in playing the longest format of the game. However given the recent debacle on the WIndies shores, it has been made mandatory for the selection in the longest format.
Bangladesh has performed pretty poorly in the recent times. The national players have not shown interest in playing first-class games. And it has been considered as one of the primary reasons for Bangladesh’s debacle in the Carribean.

Moreover, BCB decided that players won’t be considered for national selection unless they participate in at least two first-class tournaments.
The National Cricket League (NCL) has been going on in Bangladesh for a long time. It is the traditional first-class league of the country. It is followed by the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL).
BCL is a franchise-based competition. Earlier, BCB had not pushed the national cricketers to take this step. However, after a disastrous tour of the Caribbean, they have been forced to think differently.

The rules will be implied from next NCL and BCL
“It will be implied from the upcoming edition of the NCL and the BCL,” Cricbuzz quoted BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus.
“So far we have shown the soft attitude towards it. But now it is high time we change our stance because we have noticed that there are few players who are not interested to play long-version cricket,” he added.
“Whenever it comes to playing first-class matches, our players come up with some kind of excuses to avoid it. We have got a long-standing policy that the players will not be considered for national team unless they play domestic first-class cricket,” he added.
Test captain Shakib Al Hasan and senior campaigner Tamim Iqbal last played a domestic first-class match about three years ago. They had represented Khulna and Chittagong division respectively in an NCL match.
Eventually, Mushfqur Rahim missed two seasons. At last, he played one match in the last edition of the BCL and NCL.

Among the current cricketers, it was only Mahmudullah Riyad, who took part in the previous edition. He featured in a couple of matches of the BCL.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Test skipper had not been part of the full season.
“It just cannot go on because we have to develop the habit of playing long-form cricket instead of just putting all our energy in the shorter formats. If you look at the Test result of our recent past it is surely quite alarming as we failed to prove our worth on several occasions. And that is largely due to lack of skill and temperament,” said Jalal.
