BCCI Acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary Defends Virat Kohli for Skipping Afghanistan Test
BCCI acting secretary, Amitabh Choudhary, on Tuesday, leapt in defence of India captain, Virat Kohli who is facing criticism from several quarters for skipping the one-off Test against Afghanistan.
Kohli will be playing for Surrey during June and will miss the historic occasion, as India plays host to the war-ravaged nation.
India will host Afghanistan in the Test from June 14 in a historic clash. It will be Afghanistan???s first-ever Test. The war-ravaged country along with Ireland was given the Test status last year. The game will be played in Bengaluru.
Not surprisingly, Kohli???s presence in the game would have made the occasion even grander. However, the India skipper has decided to give it a miss to play for Surrey in County Championship.
Last week, Virat signed up for Surrey. The 29-year old will be available for all cricket throughout June until the close of Surrey???s away game to Yorkshire.
The batting star would be desperate to do well in England this time around. Last time, India had visited England, Kohli had endured a disastrous outing. India lost the series 3-1, and Kohli was one of the worst performers. He averaged just 13.40 in ten innings with a top score of 39.
However, his desire to prepare himself well for the England tour has not gone down too well with many. But Choudhary defended the batting stalwart.
???There was no intention (on Virat???s part) of not to play (against Afghanistan). It is only because of the English challenge which we have to rise through to the satisfaction of the entire cricket fraternity in this country and Virat wants to sustain for the right reasons,??? Choudhary told the journalists.

???We have taken this decision to allow Virat as well as some others to give them a fair opportunity of acclimatising themselves in England. Basically, it is not for the shorter format but, the longer one.

India will tour England for five Tests, three ODIs and as many T20Is. Before that, the Men in Blue will play two T20Is in Ireland on June 27th and 29th.
