The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to host its first-day night Test this year.
Meanwhile, BCCI is exploring the possibilities of holding the day-night Test when the Windies tour India.
Meanwhile, Windies will tour India to play three Tests, five one-day matches, and one Twenty20 game.
Board is in favour of day-night Test:
The general manager of cricket operations at the BCCI, Syed Saba Karim admitted BCCI is in favour of hosting a day-night Test. Meanwhile, many cricketing nations have already hosted day-night Test matches.
“There is a strong reason why we should have day-night Tests,” Karim said to TOI. “If you look at it from a global perspective, then there are other nations who have gone ahead and played day-night Tests with some excellent results. They drew a large attendance. The ICC I believe has come up with a statement that all of us need to sit together to work out a system to save Test cricket. One of the suggestions was to have day-night Tests,” he added.
Meanwhile, day-night Test matches received much appreciation around the world, with the occasion tending to attract bigger crowds due to them being played during work-friendly hours.
Also, use of the pink ball is a notable change in place of the traditional red ball. It is because the red cherry takes on a brownish colour under floodlights and can be difficult to differentiate from the colour of the pitch. Also, the white ball used in limited-overs formats is not an option, as it will blend with the traditional white dress.
The last day-night Test was a one-off four-day Test between South Africa and Zimbabwe last December. Also, South Africa won the game in Port Elizabeth within two days.
