BCCI Nominates Shikha Pandey, Deepti Sharma For Arjuna Award: Reports

BCCI will nominate India women’s team cricketers Shikha Pandey and Deepti Sharma for Arjuna awards for their brilliance in the T20 World Cup in Australia. According to IANS, sources claimed that Shikha and Deepti’s performance in the World T20 as well as in the last year saw their names being forwarded to the office-bearers for recommendation for the prestigious awards.
In the marquee event, Shikha Pandey picked up seven wickets from five matches while Deepti Sharma contributed with the bat and ball. She was also pivotal in India’s win against Australia in their inaugural fixture.

The nominations for the 2020 National Sports Awards which includes the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and the Arjuna Award were invited by the sports ministry on May 5. Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic outbreak the nominations were asked to sent via e-mail.
Sources close to the news agency have confirmed that the office-bearers were given the names of Shikha and Deepti by the cricket operations team for not just their brilliant show in the World T20 in Australia. As for now, only these two names have been known.
“Yes, the office-bearers were given the names of Shikha and Deepti by the cricket operations team for not just their brilliant show in the World T20 in Australia where we finished as runners-up, but also for their consistent showing in the last season. These two names have been forwarded to the office-bearers and are likely to be forwarded to the ministry for the Arjuna Awards once they approve,” the source said.
India had lost the women’s T20 World Cup final to Australia by 85 runs.
