Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday has nominated Team India skipper Virat Kohli for the prestigious Khel Ratna award.

Meanwhile, this comes a day after BCCI recommended Shikhar Dhawan and Smriti Mandhana for the Arjuna award.

Kohli, however, is literally on a stroll with the Indian team while taking his performance to a whole new level. He has made it a habit of breaking a slew of records and is also leading the side superbly.

Moreover, under Kohli, the Men in Blue recently won their first bilateral series (limited-overs) in South Africa. Kohli was of top-notch, scoring in almost all the games.

Previously, Kohli won the Arjuna Award in 2013 and Padma Shri in 2017.

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, meanwhile, is the highest sporting honour of the Republic of India. It is named after former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and is annually given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Kohli is currently with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad who had the worst start in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). They have managed to win only four games out of six as they find themselves in the sixth spot.

However, Kohli personally had an average tournament so far but will like to capitalise on the starts he missed out in the last few games.

So far, Virat Kohli has scored 249 runs in six games including unbeaten 92 which went in vain.

BCCI nominated Gavaskar for Dhyan Chand Award-

Moreover, BCCI has also nominated the name of former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar for  Dhyan Chand Award, for Lifetime Achievement in Sports.

Gavaskar has played 125 Tests and 108 One-day Internationals for India scoring 10,122 and 3,092 runs respectively.

However, he made a name for himself in the longer format of the game. He registered 34 Test tons, which was a record till Sachin Tendulkar broke it.

Meanwhile, Gavaskar, who took up commentary post-retirement, is busy giving his expert comments from the commentary box during the ongoing Twenty20 league.
