It seems like the wait for Rohit Sharma’s return to red-ball cricket continues for a long time. After being dropped from the national team, BCCI selectors ignored Rohit Sharma to play for India A as well.
The right-handed batsman had played his last Test when India toured South Africa in January this year. Despite scoring a bit better than the rest, he was subsequently dropped for the Afghanistan Test and then for India’s tour to England.
Rohit Sharma showed his form by performing in the ODI series but he was still ignored by the BCCI selectors. Instead, they opted to give a chance for the domestic consistent run-scored Hanuma Vihari in middle-order.
Shreyas Iyer to lead India-A:
Announcing India A’s four-day squad to face Australia-A, BCCI named Shreyas Iyer as the captain of the ship. The Board of Control for Cricket in India stuck to the regulars that featured in India-A in England and South Africa tours.
The left-arm chinaman bowler, Kuldeep Yadav is the new recruitee in the team. After being axed from the national team for the remaining two Tests, the board asked to fine-tune his skills by representing India-A.
Another senior batsman to face the axe from the team is Murali Vijay. He hasn’t fared well for India in the overseas Tests of late thus lost a place in the national squad. However, the only golden chance for them is to play Ranji Trophy.
Rohit Sharma received a lot of criticism when he got featured in South Africa Tests. Virat Kohli played Rohit Sharma ahead of Ajinkya Rahane, but the move severely hurt India, as he failed pretty badly.
