The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) anti-corruption unit has been investigating cases of alleged match-fixing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. As per reports in the Indian Express, they have zeroed down on one Ranji Trophy player, one regular in the IPL and a Ranji Trophy coach for the same.

As per reports, bookies and match-fixers have taken control of a TNPL franchise through an illegal deal with the team owner. And now, the people linked to the bookies are spreading in different teams. It is also reported that the bookies are running the franchises in a way that they make huge profits in betting.

Meanwhile, there have been several cases of wide-spread corruption in unofficial micro-T20 leagues. But this is the first time a high-profile tournament under BCCI’s shelter has come under the scanner. The league has Star India as its official broadcasters and also features many international cricketers.

The ACU investigators say an association comprising Gujarat and Kolkata-based bookies and a fixer involved with the tainted Rajputana Cricket League has been in touch with the owner of the TNPL team under the scanner since last April. The report also adds the bookies paid the owner 4 crore rupees in return of the control after various meetings in metro cities.

The coach involved is said to have asked for Rs 25 lakh and an SUV, the report adds. The bookies confined to the ACU has revealed that the coach was seen giving instructions to players on how many runs to score. With the coach now moving to a new team, the ACU fears that the rot might spread.

The probe also exposed an instance when bookies and fixers decided the franchise squad. BCCI ACU is likely to file an FIR with the state police in a few days after taking legal opinion on the issue.
