BCCI To Review The Chargesheet Before Taking A Call On Mohammed Shami

The Alipur Court in Kolkata issued an arrest warrant in favour of star India pacer Mohammed Shami in charge of a domestic violence case levied by his estranged wife. The cricketer now has 15 days in hand to surrender and apply for bail. Meanwhile, BCCI has decided to take slow steps and see the chargesheet before deciding on Shami’s future.

In early 2018, Mohammed Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan had accused him of domestic violence. Thus, the high court book Shami and his brother for domestic violence under IPC Section 498A. Since Hasin Jahan made the allegations, the illustrated cricketer did not appear before the court following which the ACJM gave the order.

Mohammed Shami is currently in West Indies plying his trade in the second Test against West Indies. Although he didn’t have an exceptional series but bowled well in patches to provide support to his bowling partners.

The cricketer from Bengal went to mental trauma after the sage broke out in 2018. It is to be seen how he handle things now. The board; however, will not take any action against Mohammed Shami until they receive a copy of the chargesheet.

“Yes, we do understand that an arrest warrant has been issued. But don’t really see us getting involved in this at this point in time. Once we see the chargesheet, we can decide how things stand and if the BCCI constitution calls for any action. But at this point in time, I would say it is too early to take a call on the matter,” the official said to IANS.

Furthermore, the BCCI official said that there is no need to terminate his contract as this case is more of domestic violence. Explaining the rationale, he added that earlier it as done because Mohammed Shami’s wife levelled charges of match-fixing. Shami has been in spectacular form since he made a comeback after fighting all the mental issues. The recent turn of events can once again take a toll on his cricketing career.

“That was different. There were allegations that Shami had indulged in fixing games. This time round, it is more a case of domestic violence. As things stand now, his contract doesn’t need to be terminated. I am sure Shami will do the needful once he is back in the country after the second Test against the West Indies ends,” he explained.
