From past few months, neither batting nor bowling, but fitness has become the pre-requisite for a player to get a place in the Indian team. Even head coach Ravi Shastri went on to say that the batting and bowling abilities of a player are of no use if a player isn’t fit.
Fitness has become the single need for a player to get in the Indian team and a failure in clearing the parameters of fitness had seen few of the players from being dropped from the Indian team. They are still trying to get back their place in the side
Taking a leaf out of the Indian team’s book, Bengal team is all set follow the same criteria, and they will put fitness as the prime criteria for a player to be in the Bengal side,
“From next season, we will have certain non-negotiable fitness parameters for getting into the team. We have discussed that. It would be pretty similar to what the Indian team is doing right now. I told the boys after the last game that batting and bowling will come later. Certain fitness parameters will be set and everyone has to go through the test and qualify,” he told the Indian Express.
Delhi Ranji team too had placed extra focus on fitness before the start of the season.

Tiwary’s comments have come after the loss against Delhi in the semifinal of the Ranji trophy. Manoj Tiwary-led side went in as favourites to win the contest and qualify for the finals, but Navdeep Saini’s and rookie Kulwant Khejroliya’s pace was too hot to handle for Bengal batsmen. Bengal were dismissed for a score of 86 on the third day, which saw Delhi team winning the game by a margin of an innings and 26 runs.
Delhi will now face Vidarbha in the final of the Ranji trophy. Delhi will play the final of the tournament after a period of 10 seasons while this will be the first time when Vidarbha will make an appearance in the final of the one of the oldest tournament in Indian domestic cricket.
