The emerging team of Bangladesh aced the chase of 247 against India to secure the top spot for now in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup in a Group A match in Savar. The hosts’ pursuit of a tricky score revolved around their skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who played a captain’s knock to steer his team past the finish line by seven wickets.

Electing to field first, Bangladesh kept India’s scoring rate in check throughout the innings. India’s top-run scorer was Armaan Jaffer, who brought his century in the 47th over with a couple of runs. At the top of the order, Aryan Juyal scraped to 37 off 61 balls. The tourists were in a spot of bother, having been reduced to 88-4 in the 21st over. Vinayak Gupta and Armaan Jaffer revived the innings with a 115-run stand.

After Vinayak’s departure for a resolute 40, the rest of the batsmen couldn’t capitalise on the foundation to steer their side to a strong finish. India lost their last five wickets for 33 runs to finish with 246 from their full fifty overs. Jaffer was the top scorer for them with 105 from 98 deliveries. Sumon Khan was the pick of the bowlers, bagging four wickets in 10 overs for 64 runs. Tanvir Islam’s miserly spell and Soumya Sarkar’s useful ten overs delivered two wickets.

In reply, Mohammad Naim nicked to the keeper captain BR Sharath for 14 off nine balls that included two boundaries and a six. Najmul Hossain joined Soumya Sarkar to add 144 for the second wicket in no time. After Sarkar’s exit for 73, Hossain shared another robust partnership with Yasir Ali. At the departure of the captain, Bangladesh were still 46 runs away from victory with more than 30 overs left.

However, Atif Hossain took his team comfortably with his unbeaten 34 as the Tigers chased down the target only in 42.1 overs. The Indian bowlers were nowhere close to their best with Siddharth Desai ending with reasonable figures of 10-0-49-1. Majority of the bowlers gave away runs at an alarming rate.
