Former Pakistan skipper and one of the greatest bowlers, Waqar Younis, has stated the bowling quality in the Pakistan Super League is superior to any other league in the world.
Pakistan has a history of producing some sensational fast bowlers. It is also known as a land of left-arm pacers. It makes bowling even more interesting. Meanwhile, it must be noted Waqar is the current coach of the national team. He is also the coach of Islamabad United in the 3rd edition of the tournament.
Speaking on the context of too many low scoring games in the tournament, Waqar explained it is due to the nature of the pitch in the United Arab Emirates.
He says the exceptional show by the bowlers which hasn’t allowed teams to score, as high as we see in other global T20 leagues like the Big Bash League in Australia and the IPL in India.
Bowling Quality is Best in PSL
“I think the quality of bowling in PSL is better than any other league in the world. Pitches in the United Arab Emirates are not that batting oriented, they are not that flat. Over here (in UAE) you need to be more sensible as a batsman, and I think this makes the PSL even more interesting. I do not mind low scoring games as long as they are interesting. Seeing batsman hitting big sixes is common in T20 cricket around the world, which makes PSL unique and different,” Younis was quoted as saying by the ESPN Cricinfo in a video interview.
The first couple of sessions of PSL garnered decent viewership in the television. But when it came to the crowd, the people of UAE were reluctant to go and watch the matches live.
The final of the previous edition of the tournament was held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. It attracted a full house amidst very tight security. Even in this edition the playoffs and the final will be played in Karachi. It is an attempt made to revive cricket in Pakistan.
