Australia’s assistant coach Brad Haddin reckons the Kangaroos received a massive bonus in the absence of Kagiso Rabada for the rest of the series.
In both the Test matches at Durban and Port Elizabeth, Rabada wrecked havoc within the Australian camp with his devastating spells. In the two matches of the series itself, Rabada clinched 15 wickets including the man of the match performance in Port Elizabeth.
Rabada, due to his send-offs to Smith and Warner, accumulated four demerit point in addition to the five points accrued prior to the start of the series.
As a result, the South Africans would be devoid of their pace spearhead in the upcoming matches at Cape Town and Johannesburg.
“It’s disappointing for Rabada, but he’ll have an interesting couple of Test matches. I know the South Africans, playing us, I’ve heard them say a couple of times this is their big series and now he’s got to sit back and watch what’s going on out there,” stated Brad Haddin according to cricket.co.au.
“It will be interesting to see how he comes back after that, because he’ll be hurting, no doubt, over the next couple of Test matches,” added Haddin.
The cricketing fraternity, as well as Twitterati, came in support of young Rabada, as he faced the two-match ban.
SA captain Faf du Plessis also demanded lenient laws when it comes to post-wicket celebrations, in the aftermath of dying stature of Test Cricket.
“He’s very impressive. For someone so young, the smarts he has the with ball in his hand, knowing when to go up and down gears and looking from the sidelines it looks like he really understands how to set up a batsman,” quoted Haddin, heaping praises on Rabada.
Kagiso Rabada, with his lethal spells at Port Elizabeth, became the youngest player to acquire four ten-wicket hauls in Test cricket.
KG ended up with 11 wickets in the match, which comprised of four wickets in seven balls, ripping apart the Aussie middle-order.
It’s a bonus because he is a class act: Haddin on Rabada ban
“I thought the spell in the second innings to go after Warner and the openers, that was a pretty placid wicket, and from where I was sitting that was some pretty hostile bowling. He took it upon himself there to get the big wicket of Warner,” Haddin says.
“It’s disappointing for the game that he’s not playing but from our point of view it’s a bonus because he is a class act,” concluded Brad Haddin.
