To say that Prithvi Shaw is one of the upcoming stars of Indian cricket is not an aberration. The swashbuckling opener from Mumbai first stormed into the reckoning when he broke a century-old record of the highest individual score in a competitive game when he smoked a whirlwind 546 in a Harris Shield game back in 2013.

Interestingly, Shaw’s record came in the same month [November] Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar called time on his celebrated 24-year-old international career. Since then, Prithvi Shaw has been hailed as the next big thing from the Mumbai school of batting.

The prodigiously talented cricketer went by leaps and bounds in the following years as he equaled his idol Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring a hundred on his Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy debut.

Shaw then led Team India to an U-19 World Cup triumph in New Zealand in 2018 and he was immediately racked up by the Delhi Capitals in the succeeding IPL auctions.

Brad Hogg, former Australian chinaman spinner, has heaped high praise on Prithvi Shaw.

According to the former World Cup-winning cricketer, Shaw’s strokeplay and natural flair reminds him of Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara. He further added that Prithvi Shaw will be the standout player for the Capitals in the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

‘’The standout for the Delhi Capitals I think is going to be Prithvi Shaw. I think it is time for him to make runs and show the world how good he actually is because he is a talent. I would say he is a bit like Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar,” Brad Hogg said on his Youtube channel.

Prithvi Shaw has thus far represented Delhi Capitals in 25 matches spread across two IPL seasons, in which he has racked up 598 runs at an average of 23.92 and a strike-rate of 141.04.
