Rajasthan Royals have suffered a huge blow ahead of the upcoming season of Indian Premier League with their star allrounder Jofra Archer being ruled out of the competition. The England star is out of the upcoming edition of the competition because of a stress fracture of the right elbow.
Jofra Archer managed to play just one Test in the 3-1 victory over South Africa – the opening defeat at Centurion. However, he was hopeful of returning to action soon. Initial scans had not shown up any significant damage and Jofra Archer had been trying to get fit for the T20I series in South Africa starting next Tuesday.
But there was bad news for the 24-year old during scans on the troublesome elbow on Wednesday as they confirmed the low grade fracture. The Barbados-born star now looks set to be out of action for around three months, meaning he will miss the IPL as well as England’s tour of Sri Lanka.
England have named Lancashire’s Saqib Mahmood as replacement in the Test squad. Jofra Archer will be re-scanned again four weeks from now and only if cleared will begin one of the ECB’s back to bowling programmes, which last between four and six weeks.
Missing Jofra Archer will be a huge blow for Rajasthan Royals. The allrounder has been an indispensable part of the franchise since being signed up by them in 2018. In his maiden season, he helped the inaugural winners of the IPL to make it to the playoffs.
Jofra Archer finished his first year in IPL with 15 wickets. His bowling performance in 2019 IPL was even better as far as the economy-rate is considered. He conceded at a stunning rate of 6.76 while picking up 11 wickets although the Royals failed to make it to the playoffs.
