KL Rahul has been sensational form in the IPL. He has notched up over 500 runs in the IPL 2020 thus far from nine matches and continues to go strong. Though results have not worked in favour for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), his individual form has earned him plenty of praises, and West Indies legend Brian Lara is also mighty impressed with him.
Lara, a part of the expert panel for the official broadcasters, said that Rahul is a batsman who can play across formats for him. His statement came after KXIP beat Mumbai Indians after a thrilling Super Over contest.
KL Rahul has done well as a captain: Brian Lara
“He’s my test batsman, he’s my 50-over batsman and he’s my T20 batsman,” Lara said on Star Sports after KXIP beat Mumbai Indians in a thrilling contest which had to be decided via a second Super Over after both teams ended on level terms not once but twice.
“As a captain he has done very well. I love the way he bats, love the way he puts them together. Yes he struggled to finish off matches towards the beginning but now he’s looking to improve that too,” Lara said.
KL Rahul is also in the reckoning to become the first choice wicket-keeper for India after MS Dhoni called time on his international career. Rishabh Pant was touted to fill in the big boots of MS Dhoni across format. But as he failed to capitalise on the chances he was given with his poor shot selection and questionable glovework, it opened the doors for KL Rahul.
The Karnataka batsman, on the contrary, latched on to the opportunity and made the most of it. KL Rahul was tried to bat at different positions for Team India and he delivered. His glovework was also neat which came as an added bonus for the wicket-keeper batsman.
