Not many fans or former cricketers are fans of the cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar. Due to his controversial reputation as a commentator so far, the BCCI decided to wield the axe on him not too long ago. While fans all over the world have condoned the call by BCCI, Chandrakant Pandit has stood up for the Mumbai batsman and has backed his overall nature.
Not only has Pandit played alongside Manjrekar for Mumbai, but also the pair represented themselves in the national side. He played five Tests and 36 ODIs between 1986 and 1992.
I know him since childhood: Chandrakant Pandit on Sanjay Manjrekar
After his career as a player, the 58-year old had successful coaching stints with Vidharba and Mumbai, leading them to back to back titles in Ranji and Irani Trophy.
Pandit remarked that he has known Sanjay since childhood and that he is upfront with people.
At the same time, he supported him by conceding that the 54-year old wouldn’t mean any harm to anybody and that one cannot make people happy just to keep their jobs.

The 58-year old advised BCCI subtly to revisit the decision they have taken.
Pandit was confident that he isn’t against anybody and that the inputs given by the commentators are not only helpful to the youngsters, but also the mentors assisting the players.
“I know him since childhood. He’s not a man who can bring harm. He’s a straightforward person, which is something I always admired about him. A person who tells you the truth on your face is never liked by anybody. As a commentator, he has to sometimes say things which may not be liked by all. He can’t say things that please, please people, just to keep his job,” Chandrakant Pandit told Times of India.
“Sanjay isn’t against anybody. I don’t want to blame anybody for his removal, but I request the board to have a rethink about its decision. I’m saying this because all the commentators give inputs about the game which are beneficial to not only young cricketers but also coaches like us.” Chandrakant Pandit said.
Chandrakant Pandit recommends how the BCCI could’ve dealt with Sanjay Manjrekar:

The former wicketkeeper-batsman believes that the panel may have advised him to make comments subtly instead of throwing him out of the position.
Pandit also said that at times, Sanjay does make remarks casually, which gets broadcasted on air. Yet, he is firm that sacking the person isn’t the solution.
“He may sound harsh at times, but the BCCI can ask him to tone down his language, but don’t throw him out of the profession. Sometimes he makes comments spontaneously, as if he’s talking to a friend, which unfortunately appear inappropriately on air,” he stated.
“Tomorrow somebody else can make a similar mistake, but sacking that person isn’t the answer,” he added further.
