Ahead of this year’s IPL, Chennai Super Kings star Suresh Raina has said that the team is full of good leaders. The former India batsman, who retired from international cricket last week, stated that presence of the leaders is the reason behind Super Kings’ success in IPL.
The Chennai-based outfit are one of the most successful teams in the history of the competition. They have won three titles so far and are the only team which has made it to the playoffs every year since the inaugural season although they missed the 2016 and 2017 season after being suspended. In ten seasons they have played, they have made it to the final a record eight times.
And as the three-time champions gear up for another season, Suresh Raina has boasted about the team’s leadership. The Super Kings star said that the team has eleven captains before calling captain MS Dhoni – the king who sits on top and guides them all.
“In our team, everyone is the captain, with Bravo leading the side, Faf is there, Ashwin led the side, MS is there forever. Then we have myself, I have led India and in IPL also. I think we have eleven captains but we have a king sitting on the top who knows how to see the bigger picture from behind the stumps,” Suresh Raina said in an interview with Cricibuzz.
“So it’s a great experience around the franchise and on top that we have the captain of South Africa (Faf du Plessis), Fleming, who was the best captain how he led New Zealand. Michael Hussey, Matthew Hayden, he dominated the IPL, brought in his mongoose bat. He gave a lot of pep talk to the youngsters,” he added.
The thirteenth edition of the IPL is getting underway on September 19 with the final scheduled on November 10. Chennai Super Kings will be looking to lay their hands on the trophy again after losing to Mumbai Indians in the final last year.
