Speculations are rife over the future of MS Dhoni in international cricket as well as in the Indian Premier League (IPL). At 39, MS Dhoni is not getting any younger and the recent turned of events have only fuelled the speculations regarding his future.

The former India skipper has not played a single competitive game since the World Cup semifinal in July last year. As soon as the tournament ended, he took a sabbatical from the game which would have ended in March in the IPL. However, the tournament was postponed in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

MS Dhoni will finally make his much-awaited return to the cricket field next month when the IPL takes place in UAE. But there is still little clarity over his future especially in international cricket.

MS Dhoni’s future with Chennai Super Kings:

While the legendary player’s future with Team India is still unclear, his future with Chennai Super Kings has become a bit clear. Franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan has said that the Super Kings skipper will play for the team till IPL 2022 and is not worried at all about the veteran wicket-keeper batsman’s form.

“Yes. We can expect MS Dhoni to be part of both (IPL 2020 and 2021) and probably for even the next year. 2022,” Viswanathan was quoted as saying by India Today.

“I am getting updates through the media only, saying he has been training in Jharkhand in indoor nets. But we don’t have to worry about the skipper, boss. We don’t worry about him at all. He knows his responsibilities and he will take care of himself and the team,” he added.

Meanwhile, IPL 2020 is set to start on September 19 while the final is scheduled to take place on November 10. The entire competition is being played in the UAE because of the alarming coronavirus situation in the country.
