Former India fast-bowler Chetan Sharma, on Saturday, revealed a hilarious incident from his first-ever Test series which was against Pakistan. The coronavirus pandemic has brought the entire world to a standstill and cricket has not been spared either. Cricket action all around the world has been suspended in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Last month, the BCCI suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) till April 15 and there is absolutely no clarity over the fate of the tournament. Due to the pandemic, people all around the world have been staying indoors. And in recent times, a number of cricketers have been doing live sessions on social media platforms to keep themselves busy.

On Saturday, Chetan Sharma did a live session too and spoke about his illustrious career. Having made his debut at an early age of 17, Chetan Sharma went on to prove his critics wrong who had written him off because of his height.

He played nearly 100 international games for India across formats. In his international career that lasted for a decade, he gave the Indians fans a number of memorable memories. On the tour of England in 1986, he took 16 wickets in two Tests, including the first ten-wicket haul by an Indian bowler in that country.

In the following year, he became the first Indian to take a hat-trick in ODIs and also the first overall to take it in a World Cup. He dismissed Ken Rutherford, Ian Smith and Ewen Chatfield of New Zealand during the must-win clash in the 1987 World Cup and helped India enter the semifinal where they lost to England.

The anecdote:

During the live session, Chetan Sharma recalled his first-ever Test series which was in Pakistan. He recalled how the atmosphere was electric for the first Test in Lahore and he could not asked for a better start. In his very first over, he castled Mohsin Khan.

Things then became better for him as he dismissed Pakistan batting mainstay Javed Miandad and what followed thereafter was absolutely hilarious. Chetan Sharma recalled that he surprised Miandad with a short delivery and the latter was absolutely clueless.

Miandad closed his eyes while playing the shot and edged the ball to short leg. Chetan Sharma further recalled that Miandad, who stammers, was not at all happy with his dismissal and left the field while muttering: “patthal maala patthal mala (Patthar mara, pathhar mara).”

Chetan Sharma rubbed more salt on Miandad’s wounds by saying: “Pathhal thodi mala, ball dala”.
