West Indian swashbuckling batsman Chris Gayle’s most recent professional cricket was in the IPL 2020 for Kings XI Punjab. Though Chris Gayle played only the last seven matches of the tournament, the veteran was in excellent nick. Nevertheless, it has emerged that he has opted out of the inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League, beginning on the 26th of November.

Chris Gayle was to join the likes of Munaf Patel and Irfan Pathan along with local icon player Kusal Perera and his fellow countrymen in Kusal Mendis and Nuwan Pradeep for the Kandy Tuskers. England fast bowler Liam Plunkett is also part of the franchise. Nevertheless, the West Indies T20 veteran has pulled out of the tournament at the 11th hour.

Chris Gayle is one of the most experienced T20 batsmen in the world, having played in the T20 leagues all over the world. The southpaw is a sweet striker of the ball, having clattered 13584 runs in 411 fixtures at 38.26 with a healthy strike rate of 146.72. In 411 games, he has 22 centuries and 85 along with the best score of 175*. In the seven matches in IPL 2020, Gayle struck three fifties; however, it was not enough for KXIP to make it to the playoffs.

Below is the tweet of Kandy Tuskers about Chris Gayle:

Five franchises, namely Kandy Tuskers, Jaffna Stallions, Dambulla Hawks, Colombo Kings, and Galle Gladiators will compete for the trophy across 23 matches. Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota will host all the games with Colombo taking on Kandy the first day. The competition concludes on the 16th of December.
