Chris Gayle, swashbuckling West Indian opener and the self-proclaimed ‘Universe Boss’, has said that he ‘stands with his statements’ he’d made against his former teammate Ramnaresh Sarwan and Jamaica Tallawahs franchise after his contract was not extended by the latter.
Chris Gayle, who had the Jamaica Tallawahs to two Caribbean Premier League [CPL] had launched a verbal attack on Ramnaresh Sarwan, who he alleged was the reason behind his axing.
Gayle, however, admitted that his remarks where he compared Sarwan to a ‘snake’ besides saying that he is ‘worse than the coronavirus’ were ‘damaging’ to the Jamaica Tallawahs franchise.
“Recently, I posted three videos on my personal YouTube channel, where I addressed the reasons for my departure from the Jamaica Tallawahs franchise ahead of the 2020 CPL tournament,” Chris Gayle said in an official statement released by the CPL.
He added: “I made these videos with one single intention to explain to the fans in Jamaica the reasons behind what has now become my second departure from the Tallawahs franchise. It was my greatest wish to finish my CPL career in Jamaica, playing in front of my home crowd at Sabina Park with the franchise that I had previously led to two CPL titles,”
“In so far as my resentment at the treatment, I stand by my comments in those videos. My words were spoken from the heart,” he added.

‘It was never my intention to damage the T20 tournament’ – Chris Gayle
Gayle, however, admitted that his remarks may be viewed as being damaging to Cricket West Indies and the brand of the CPL in general. He added that it was never his intention to damage the credibility of the tournament.
“It was never my intention to damage the T20 tournament, as playing in the CPL has guaranteed an opportunity for the past seven years to play in front of the great fans of the Caribbean. This is a privilege which I genuinely appreciate and have never taken for granted,” he added.
Meanwhile, the CPL Committee has decided against the use of tribunal as the southpaw has assured the authorities that he will act in good faith.
Gayle will represent St Lucia Zouks in the upcoming season of the CPL.
