Five years ago, a relatively unknown Chris Morris was all over the news in India after Chennai Super Kings went all out and bought him for a whopping  $625,000 –  more than 31 times of the Proteas allrounder’s base price of just US$20,000.

He could not quite live up to expectations in his initial years but his fortunes changed when he snapped by Delhi Daredevils for over US$1 million at the 2016 IPL auction.  His stunning knock of 82 not out off just 32 balls with 4 fours and 8 sixes against Gujarat Lions in 2016 is still fresh in the fans’ mind as Morris went on to become a fan favourite.  In an otherwise dismal outings for the Daredevils in the last two seasons, Morris has been one bright spark.

In his inaugural season for the national capital-based outfit, the hard-hitting South Africa scored at an average of 65 and a stunning strike-rate of 178.89. He was also impressive with the ball, picking up 13 wickets and conceding just 7 runs per over. He also did well in the last season, scoring 154 runs in 9 games in addition to picking up 12 wickets.

Well, Morris is set to weave his magic in the Daredevils jersey again as he has been retained by the franchise. Delhi Daredevils, on Thursday (January 4), retained Morris along with Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant and the Proteas allrounder is absolutely delighted with the news.

Moments after the news became official, he took to Twitter to express his delight, writing: “Over the moon to be retained by @DelhiDaredevils Looking forward to this season! #DilDilli.”
