In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Chennai Super Kings’ practice sessions will stand suspended from Saturday. The three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions were practicing for the upcoming season of the league since March 2 at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Captain MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu were the big names who had started practicing with other members of the squad. Thousands of fans were attending the camp each day in the stadium in order to catch a glimpse of MS Dhoni who has not played a competitive game since the World Cup semifinal in July last year.

Apart from the aforementioned names, the likes of Harbhajan Singh and Murali Vijay were also part of the camp. Kedar Jadhav, new recruit Piyush Chawla, Karn Sharma, K M Asif and local players R Sai Kishore and N Jagadeesan attended the camp too.

“Chennai Super Kings practice sessions at M A Chidambaram stadium stands suspended from March 14, considering the present COVID-19 situation,” Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) secretary R S Ramasaamy said in a press release.

The announcement from the TNCA came just hours after the BCCI suspended the IPL 2020 till April 15 as a precautionary measure. The thirteenth edition of the league was scheduled to start on March 29 with Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings in the tournament-opener.

The BCCI, on Friday, also called off the three-match ODI series between India and South Africa. Both the teams were preparing for the second game in Lucknow after the game in Dharamsala was washed out before the BCCI announced the decision. The series will now take place at a later date this year. The Test series between England and Sri Lanka has been called off too.
